PROJECT: Muriwai Beach Campground Facility Buildings
CUSTOMER: Panuku Development Auckland / Auckland Council
PARTNER: Matthews & Matthews Architects
In partnership with Panuku Development Auckland and Auckland Council, Corbel successfully completed the Muriwai Campground project, which saw the provision of five new camp ground facility buildings and a revamp of existing facilities.
All buildings were upgraded while showers, toilet, laundry and kitchen facilities were modernised and designed to operate on a much more sustainable basis. A revamped barbecue area and a new fish cleaning station are hoped to also attract many locals and visitors. The new buildings are spacious and modern with a real focus on families.
Iwi were given the chance to provide feedback on the design of the site and their input led to a colour palette reflecting Muriwai, using Maori building names and using shells and native plants for landscaping. The materials were specifically chosen to compliment the coastal environment.
The campground was temporarily closed during the colder months so improvements could be made and the project was successfully completed in time to open to the public for Waitangi weekend, which was a great success.
